The Ambulatory Retail Pharmacy Supervisor is responsible for supporting the overall management and operation of the retail pharmacy. Ensures the correct medications are dispensed to the correct patients in an efficient and safe manner as promised. Medication compliance monitoring, chronic disease state management, patient consultation, bedside delivery of medication, provider communications and inventory management are a part of daily tasks. This position is a part of the interdisciplinary team that includes clinical pharmacists, technicians and other ancillary staff.

Job Description:

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Assists with the planning, directing, supervising and monitoring of pharmacy operations within the retail/outpatient pharmacy. Serves as liaison between pharmacy operations and clinical areas of the site.

  2. Ensures the growth of prescription capture through Meds to Bed program, clinic and employee prescriptions.

  3. Provides direction and support to staff to ensure departmental effectiveness and efficiency.

  4. Oversees the inventory control system to insure the department remains adequately stocked and is responsive to dramatic fluctuation in the use of pharmaceutical items. Resolves problems or questions surrounding orders, shipping and/or billing.

  5. Performs the role of a staff pharmacist, as needed.

  6. Has the authority to direct and support employees daily work activities. Has the direct responsibility to undertake the following employment actions: hiring, termination, corrective action and performance reviews. Direct Reports: More than 7 Indirect Reports: None

  7. Assists in planning, monitoring and/or managing budget in functional area of department.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree required. Doctoral degree in Pharmacy preferred.

  2. License Massachusetts Pharmacist required.

  3. 3-5 years related work experience required and 1-3 years supervisory/management experience required.

  4. Understanding of insurance and adjudication processes.

  5. Working knowledge of inventory processes

  6. Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience in retail pharmacy.

  2. Pharmacy management experience.

  3. 340B Pharmacy and Med to Bed experience.

Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of concepts, practices and policies with the ability to use them in complex varied situations.

Team Work: Ability to act as a team leader for small projects or work groups, creating a collaborative and respectful team environment and improving workflows. Results may impact the operations of one or more departments.

Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service and staff training to meet customer service standards and expectations for the assigned unit(s). Resolves service issues in the assigned unit(s) in a timely and respectful manner.

Age based Competencies:

Physical Nature of the Job:

Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally in carrying, lifting, pushing, pulling objects. Sitting most of the time, with walking and standing required only occasionally
