Position Overview:We are seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to join our team as thePress Secretary / Deputy Communications Director.In this role, you will be a part of our team in sharing the Governor’s vision and message to the public. We are looking for a collaborative individual who will contribute to a high-functioning, multi-faceted team of communications professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and manage media relations for the Office of the Governor as the primary contact for media requests

  • Support the Communications Director in developing and implementing PR and media strategies and maintaining a PR calendar

  • Develop opportunities for the Office of the Governor to tell stories through state and national publications and media platforms

  • Develop and draft responses to media requests and talking points for media interviews. Ensure accuracy of communications.

  • Develop positive media relationships and partnerships; maintain a current media distribution list

  • In collaboration with the Communications Director and other colleagues, pitch and craft messaging content for use across multiple communications platforms

  • Manage and maintain content posted on the Governor’s website and across social media channels

  • Draft press releases, quotes, manage daily news clips, photograph meetings, and book TV and radio

  • Analyze data and identify new strategies for reaching audiences to increase engagement

  • After hour and weekend availability as needed depending on the urgency of news developments, including natural disasters and breaking events of great interest

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to craft messages that resonate with diverse audiences

  • Exchanges information with individuals or groups effectively by listening and responding appropriately

  • Displays a high level of initiative, effort, attention to detail and commitment by completing assignments efficiently with minimal supervision

  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with employees and leaders at all levels of the organization.

Salary range for this position is $75,000 - $130,000.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Four years of full-time work experience in planning and developing content for dissemination through traditional media (newspapers, publications, radio, and television), websites, social media, and/or public speaking; and A total of two years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in part a), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work in journalism, public relations, graphic design, or communications equals one year of full-time experience.
