Athletics Business Operations Coordinator

Essential functions (job duties):

Job Purpose

Coordinate and provide support to the Wayne State University Athletics Department in the day-to-day workflows and business processes needed to support various business functions, athletic and rental facilities, and sport specific activities.

Essential Functions

Coordinate and provide support in the planning, development, and implementation of various athletic operation initiatives, facility rentals, and projects. Work with internal and external vendors, invoicing and contracting; process operational purchases and monitor operational budget; coordinate with coaches and sport coordinators on availability and delivery of equipment and supplies.

Provide support with budget management and business operations functions including ticket sales, merchandise, and team travel ensuring compliance with university, NCAA, and conference policies. Serve as resource and contact for business operations functions.

Assist in coordination of weekly competitions, NCAA post-season and conference championship events; processing of NCAA & conference officials, game guarantees, hosting activities, etc.

Coordinate and process personnel transactions of part-time hourly employees for various athletic activities including competitions, events, and facility rentals.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

WORK CONTEXT

Job Reports to: Associate Director.

Leadership Accountability: Implements operating plans.

Supervisory Accountability: Supervises associates below supervisory level.

Financial Accountability: Monitors expenditures.

Customer Accountability: Interfaces with customers outside the S/C/D.

Freedom to Act: Subject to general input from supervisor.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Bachelor's degree.

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited University in Business Administration, Sports Management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience

  • Experienced (minimum 2 years of job-related experience).

  • Experience supporting administrative and business operations processes.

  • Experience utilizing various financial management systems and platforms.

  • Previous experience in athletic administration or coordination preferred.

  • Knowledge of WSU administrative systems preferred.

  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations, with previous experience in collegiate athletics preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Technological Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Google Docs. Familiarity with, or ability to learn, University technology/administrative systems.

  • Teamwork Skills: Outstanding interpersonal abilities to build cooperative, effective relationships, facilitate communication and understanding among individuals in a professional manner. Ability to build consensus, anticipate problems and difficult situations, and develop mutually agreed-upon strategies and/or solutions.

  • Customer Service Skills: Responds promptly to requests for service and assistance. Practices follow-up to ensure customer needs are met.
