GENERAL SUMMARY

The purpose of this job is to investigate clients and families to determine rehabilitation plans and implementation of applicable welfare services. Administers relevant assessments, makes recommendations, and submits referrals to community agencies. Uses interpersonal skills to build rapport with families to help meet their systemic, emotional, and financial needs. Attends and partakes in court proceedings to provide court testimony and recommendations for appropriate placements. Completes required paperwork for court proceedings. Responds to critical situations to provide intervention and reassess the client's and family's needs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conducts investigations and inquiries to identify areas of need for clients, such as minors, at-risk youth, juveniles, and/or legally incapacitated individuals and their families and/or guardians.
  • Attends and participates in various court proceedings; gathers information to provide a comprehensive analysis of the case.
  • Supervises, monitors and conducts small groups through face-to-face or phone contacts in homes, schools, hospitals, nursing homes, residential treatment facilities, and community settings.
  • Collaborates, networks, coordinates services, and liaises with various agencies and departments within the State of Michigan and other states.
  • Completes required paperwork for court proceedings, including reports, documentation, screening, data collection, and other various documents.
  • Responds to crises; provides intervention and administers assessment/re-assessment of client and family needs.
  • Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS  JPO I

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Social Sciences or a related field.
  • 3 to 5 years of related work experience with case management. 
  • Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.

Required Licenses or Certifications

  • A valid Michigan Driver's License.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS  JPO II

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Human Services, Social Sciences, Criminal Justice, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field
  • 5 to 7 years of related work experience in case management  
  • Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.

Required Licenses or Certifications

  • Michigan Judicial Institute Juvenile Probation Officer Certification.
  • A valid Michigan Driver's License.
