Automation Controls Specialist (Kingman, Arizona)

Our client, located in Kingman, Arizona is hiring an Automation Controls Specialist. This is a critical role for plant installing and maintaining new Automation Controls.

Job Summary:

This position monitors and improves the control system reliability of automated production equipment. When production system performance falls below acceptable levels, they must support troubleshooting efforts to avoid or minimize interruptions to production. A successful controls technician has a keen eye for details and good mechanical/electrical aptitude. Typically working 40 hours per week with weekend support as required. 10% travel time to other facilities and or trainings.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Process and production equipment troubleshooting.

Lead troubleshooter for higher level electrical/automation issues

Perform training for personnel on their respective shift on the various electrical/automation systems throughout the plant.

Support, provide training, and conduct audits for the plant’s Lockout/Tagout program

Install, maintain, repair, or replace control devices such as HMIs, VFDs, PLCs components etc. as needed.

Comply and participate regulatory, Carlisle, & departmental policies, procedures, & standards.

Monitors significant plant downtime events and initiative problem solving activities.

Support implementation and improvement of existing preventive/predictive maintenance programs.

Supports equipment installation coordination/supervision associated with facility needs.

Support procurement of replacement and upgrade hardware, as needed.

Perform needed maintenance, repair or rebuild/calibration of electrical control components and direct support of production operating needs.

Communicate issues and potential required changes with Controls Engineer.

Evaluate electrical equipment operation and suggest necessary action when malfunctions occur, or improvements are needed.

Daily monitoring of various plant utilities that can include chiller, air compressor, security system & fire protection system.

Complete process and preventive maintenance work orders. Capture and communicate associated data.

Maintain plant electrical control systems on equipment such as mixers, conveyors, compressors, hydraulics, motors, pneumatics, automated controls and pumps.

Troubleshoot electrical control issues, repair failures of production and facilities equipment.

Install and monitor current monitoring systems.

Maintain and enhance hardware and software knowledge to ensure up-to-date troubleshooting capabilities.

Work with mechanical and electrical maintenance technicians to help develop their control skills.

Execute projects on an as needed basis.

Assist mechanical and electrical technicians with preventive maintenance, breakdowns and work orders as needed.

Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Knowledge of PLC language (ladder logic, structured text, sequential function charts, etc.). Client would prefer knowledge of Siemens PLCs over Allen Bradley’s, but they may consider experience in either- Siemens PLCs or Allen Bradley PLCs.

Proficient in working with PLCs, HMIs, sensors, level controls, AC/DC drives, VFD drives, etc.

Experience with Allen Bradley controls preferred.

Industrial electrical AC/DC troubleshooting skills.

Knowledge of CMMS, SAP, MS programs.

Demonstrated ability to utilize electrical instruments in troubleshooting control systems.

Awareness of electrical codes such as NEMA.

Inter-Personnel Skills – Including the ability to be a team player. The ability to pass on information & training to others.

Effective written and verbal communication.

Ability to produce and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings.

Knowledge of safe working practices around moving and electrical equipment.

Critical thinking, troubleshooting and problem-solving ability.

Understanding of OSHA and industrial safety protocols.

Education and Experience:

High School diploma or GED and degree from technical school, or industrial maintenance certifications (PLC, Machine Logic) required.

Equivalent Experience: High School Diploma or GED and 3 years of experience working as a control technician in an industrial manufacturing environment.
