Meta Security Engineer, Anti Scraping in Menlo Park, California

Summary:

The Anti-Scraping team is looking for someone who loves reimagining what's possible when it comes to detecting, researching and disrupting attackers by investigating entities and analyzing data to uncover patterns of automated abuse. The team provides actionable insights upstream and works with our engineering teams to constantly implement solutions at scale through better automation strategies to make the internet a safer place for all. Successful candidates for this team have a bias toward action and enjoy finding patterns amid chaos, making quick decisions, and aren't afraid of being wrong. The ideal candidate will have a background in a quantitative field as well as IT security, bot detection/mitigation, scraping etc. The candidate will have experience working with large data sets and will have in-depth experience in data-driven decision making. You are scrappy, focused on results, a self-starter, and have demonstrated success in using analytics to reduce abuse and negative user experiences across the platform.

Required Skills:

Security Engineer, Anti Scraping Responsibilities:

  1. Use your extensive domain knowledge of Scraping and Bot detection to proactively detect automated abuse against our platform

  2. Uncover insights into network traffic (web or mobile) if there are automated attacks against our servers/products

  3. Develop tools to combat scraping

  4. Apply your knowledge in quantitative business analysis, data mining, and the presentation of data to identify trends and opportunities in investigating and blocking scraping

  5. Analyze and interpret data on which to devise hypotheses

  6. Create investigation reports that clearly communicate issues and risks from both a technical and business perspective

  7. Implement effective countermeasures to stop scraping based on these identified patterns

  8. Contribute to Meta’s anti-abuse codebase in PHP, Python, and Haskell

  9. Be a thought leader for data-informed initiatives and guide the team’s overall direction

  10. Partner with Data Science, Product, Engineering, and Operations teams to solve problems at scale

  11. Work effectively with our partners in Legal and eCrime to investigate scrapers and scraping activities

  12. Work with internal teams to understand what happens with exfiltrated data

  13. Partner with internal teams to help shape and inform bot detection technology

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. 3+ years of experience in the adversarial space working on Scraping, Bot detection and mitigation

  2. 2+ years of experience doing quantitative analysis

  3. 2+ years of programming experience with languages such Haskell, Java, C++, Perl, Python, PHP

  4. Experience querying large data sets and using SQL

  1. BA/BS in Computer Science, Math/Finance, Physics, Applied Economics, Statistics or other technical field

  2. Experience contributing to the security community (open source, academic research, industry research, blogs, presentations, etc.)

  3. Experience summarizing and communicating technical data to a non-technical audience

Public Compensation:

$143,000/year to $208,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
