SYNCOM SPACE SERVICES LLC Medical Service Professional in New Orleans, Louisiana

Purpose of the Position

Works under the supervision of the Medical Director to provide care at NASA SACOM Health Services clinics at Michoud Assembly Facility and Stennis Space Center.

Works in a collaborative model with the Medical Director and in association with clinic staff.

Provides supervision, guidance, and work direction to less experienced personnel.

Assumes responsibility for all aspects of care, education, and staff development at the clinic.

Duties and Responsibilities

Read, understand, and adhere to NPR 1800.1

Assesses the physical and psychosocial health status of employees through collection of health data such as, complete history taking, physical examination, initiation and interpretation of diagnostic studies.

Identifies problems based upon examination findings to determine the need for immediate nursing intervention, consultation and referral to other health team members.

Monitors and manages the care of stabilized chronic conditions.

May train employees in the self-management of health problems.

Provides care for complex occupational illnesses and injuries, including emergency care and referrals.

Maintains health related documentation such as employee medical records.

Tracks and records exposure to hazardous environments or chemicals and common injuries to ensure prevention of future occurrence.

Provides counseling, education, and referrals to other health care professionals.

Participates in decisions regarding the formulation of policies, procedures and protocols for the management of specific health problems; ensures that medical issues related to employee health and occupational environment are addressed in a timely manner.

Interfaces with line management, safety and industrial hygienists, and human resources personnel regarding resolution of pending medical claims or cases related to on-site accidents or injuries, to ensure resolution in a timely manner.

Plans and evaluates health education programs. Establishes, maintains, and reviews nursing record keeping systems to ensure confidentiality and adherence to legal requirements.

Supervises and trains clinic staff in the delivery of health care consistent with accepted practice standards and established company policies to ensure that appropriate care is provided in a timely manner.

Responsible for immunization administration and management.

Initiates, orders, performs, reviews, and interprets EKGs, PFTs, vision tests, audiograms, and other studies (including phlebotomy, urine collection, drug testing, alcohol testing, and medication administration).

Provide high quality service and care.

Adhere to all NASA and S3 policies.

Performs duties virtually and face to face.

All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Licensure as a Physicians Assistant in the states of practice and certification by NCCPA or A Masters degree and certification by one of the Nurse Practitioner certifying bodies (ANCC or AANP) and current licensure as an APRN.

Licensure in Mississippi and Louisiana.

Maintains Collaborative Agreement and collaborative practice with medical director.

Eligible or prescriptive authority in the states employed.

Experience with techniques and ability to perform medical procedures including laceration repair, splinting, and foreign body removal.

Experience working with emergency medical techniques such as cardiac pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid

Experience working with company facilities

Experience working with case management practices

Experience working with providing health education programs

ACLS and BLS certification

DOT drug testing certification

NIOSH Spirometry certification

CAOHC certification

DOT/FMCSA certified medical examiner

Working Conditions

  • Physical effort involving able average standing, sitting, walking or detail work.
  • Occasional risk of injury due to hazards.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

Dexterity to operate office equipment as required by the position.

Walk six hours per day

Bend and stoop six hours per day

Work overhead with minimum 20 pound load

Push and pull frequently throughout the day

Walk up/down stairs frequently

Stand seven hours per day

Climb ladders and scaffolding

Wear PPE gear six hours continuously (steel toe shoes, safety glasses, hard hat, gloves)

Tolerate extreme cold/heat for three hours continuously

Ability to pay close attention to detail

Ability to take direction

Ability to work with computers including mastery of all aspects of electronic medical record systems.

Ability to work independently but follow specific detailed instructions

Ability to interface with various levels of personnel in a multi-cultural, team- oriented environment

Other Requirements

Must be a U.S. Citizen in order to obtain required NASA badge.

Must be able to provide a certified Birth Certificate (with state seal), Passport, or INS Citizenship documents on date of hire (candidate will be sent home if this paperwork is not provided upon arrival on date of hire).

Must have the ability to communicate the English language, both verbally and written, in an effective manner.

Must have, and maintain, a valid drivers license.
