The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology has an outstanding opportunity for a Inventory and Purchasing Specialist WORK SCHEDULE

  • 40 hours per week

  • Relocation incentive for eligible new employees. REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school graduation or equivalent OR equivalent education/experienceAND

  • Three years of experience in supply distribution or related department, including at least one year as a Unit Supply Technician I or equivalent. PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Purchasing

  • Attend meetings as the inventory management representative with Purchasing and other teams.

  • Responsible for ordering laboratory supplies, and reagents including custom orders, for the molecular and flow cytometry divisions of Hematopathology and submitting purchases in PurchasePATH.

  • Receives delivery of purchased items, performs intake labeling of reagents for clinical testing

  • Acts as the primary point of contact for troubleshooting and resolving purchasing concerns and issues.

  • Maintains communication with supported customers

  • Seeks alternative sources and materials when necessaryInventory

  • Monitor inventory activities including checking items for expiration dates and product recalls

  • Manages assigned inventories through daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly cycle counts

  • Use word processing, graphics, statistical, spreadsheet and/or other software to review inventory

  • Analyze product usage and adjust inventory levels as appropriate to optimize inventory levels

  • Anticipate supply needs and communicate potential interruptions to Manager/Supervisor and customers

  • Ensures assigned areas are stocked with appropriate, cost-effective levels of supplies and reagents

  • Adjusts quantities and locations, when necessary

  • Responsible for removing and disposing of obsolete or outdated products

  • Monitor all additions, deletions, and changes to main stores and to unit PAR locations, and works closely with departments prior to and during product conversions.Operational Support

  • Coordinate the maintenance of records, including record archiving and shredding services through Record Retention.

  • Coordinate maintenance for laboratory equipment including refrigerators, freezers and centrifuges.

  • Work with Operations and Maintenance to handle work orders.

  • Oversee disposal of laboratory surplus or excess property.

  • Archives laboratory documents and slides, and maintains archive records

  • Updates established processes and procedures and develops and evaluates new ones

  • Works professionally as part of a team; assists other team members as requested and shares knowledge/expertise.
